学校概况
华威大学(The University of Warwick,又译:沃里克大学)是英国名门大学之一,自建校以来,一直跻身于全英十大学府之列,并以其高水平的学术研究和师生互动教学而享誉世界。
学校创立于1965年,现有22,000余名在校生及近5,000名教职人员,包括来自120多个国家和地区的6000余名海外留学生。作为英国所有大学的佼佼者,华威大学校史与其他大学相比虽不长,但在英国、欧洲、全球等皆已建立起卓越的学术名望。2011年校内报纸The Boar(野猪报)更因The Guardian(卫报)于当年发布的大学排名而创造了Woxbridge一字,意指Warwick University(华威大学)、Oxford University(牛津大学)、Cambridge University(剑桥大学)等3所大学俨然已成三强鼎立的现象。此外,华威大学也是在英国大学排名中,除牛津大学与剑桥大学外唯一从未跌出过前十的综合大学。
如今,华威大学已被视为英国工党政府最欢迎的大学。华威大学同时也是最早和工商业界建立密切联系的高等学府,并且由于在商业方面的杰出研究,学校甚至得到了“华威公司”的昵称(Warwick PLC)。在2011年的UCAS报告中,华威大学毕业生被列为英国企业主重点聘用的第1名。
华威大学曾是1994大学集团的成员,但在2008年7月退出并加入素有英国常春藤之称的罗素大学集团。另外,华威大学在国际间也享有极高的声誉,2012年QS世界大学排名中华威大学排名全球第50,在全世界与华威大学合作的国际院校包括:美国宾夕法尼亚大学沃顿商学院、美国哥伦比亚大学、美国杜克大学、法国巴黎政治学院、香港科技大学、中国复旦大学商学院、加拿大麦吉尔大学、加拿大皇后大学、加拿大蒙特利尔高等商学院、意大利SDA Bocconi管理学院、泰国朱拉隆功大学。
